Additional reasons, besides haskalah:
Re tanakh, already in medieval times it was deprecated in favor of talmud (famously explicitly so by rabbeinu tam).
Re history: this hasn't been pursued by Jews in 2000 years, essentially since the bible. See yerushalmi, zakhor
