Strongly disagree. Do I need to be well read in every anti-Torah philosophy to have strong emunah? Why did he suffice with Kant, Hegel, and Bergson? Why not the Gospels and all of Christian literature throughout the centuries? And Islamic literature? And Hindu literature? And Bhuddist literature? And Chinese folk religion...
Good point! No, you do not need to be well read to have strong emunah. If I wasn’t clear most people don’t need to be well read to have strong emunah. The point being made is a relatively obvious one, the individual that decides to face the world around him together with his faith, ends up having his faith forged in the crucible of the world. A much stronger position to be in rather than not.
As to your question about why not go further and explore all faith traditions. It’s rather simple, I don’t think we are required to go out of our way to explore every possible religion/philosophy, but to face the dominant one in the culture that surrounds you (in this case, the tradition of western philosophy), that is incumbent on anyone that wants to have to tools to be a true leader of our nation in modern times. (Whereas in the forced ghettos it may have been possible not to, in every other Jewish culture, this was standard, being up to date and able to face the times)
